Growing up in a segregated community and attending a Black high school in the urban core is something I am extremely proud of and most grateful for in my life. One of the best experiences for me at Central High School was having caring teachers who truly imparted their wisdom into my life.
My favorite person was my guidance counselor, Miss Eva Dixon. I was the oldest in my family and my parents were hard-working people, but had never attended college. Miss Dixon was instrumental in helping me become the first person in my family to do so. Her dedication, along with other teachers and administrators, provided instruction and guidance to our lives. Their courage, perseverance, and dedication to contribute to our growth will always be remembered and cherished.
